High School Service Programs (STEMbassadors)

STEMbassadors Program

STEMbassadors is an educational enrichment program that works with students at IMSA and statewide to develop, mentor, train, manage, and supervise IMSA student volunteers to work with participants in our in-person and virtual STEM enrichment outreach programs. It prepares the IMSA high school students to deliver inquiry-based, hands-on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics activities (STEM) to younger students. STEMbassadors learn 21st-century workforce readiness skills, including best practice collaboration, critical thinking, leadership, and communication skills.

IMSA’s STEMbassadors utilizes the “Kids Teaching Kids” model that was established over a decade ago at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA). As a teaching and learning laboratory for imagination and inquiry, IMSA has incubated the STEMbassadors program to maturity and has expanded the program to include students outside of the Aurora campus, giving the same opportunities to students in Chicago and MetroEast areas.
