Academic support for students by overseeing individual and group interventions.
- Serve as academic support on behalf of students
- Teach students strategies to succeed academically one-on-one and in group settings
- Assist students in the transition to a profoundly different learning environment
- Collaborate as a team (Learning Strategies Coordinator, CACs, Counselors, Staff, Resident Counselors, and Faculty) to support students with their academics, and advocate for students in weekly academic and social intervention meetings
I-Day AM Study Hall
Students who have been identified by their case manager, CAC, or Strategies Team as needing extra support must attend a study hall from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on I-Days. Attendance is taken and recorded in PowerSchool. Additionally, the Math Instructional Program Aid is available to provide math support.
Room Number: Math Study Area
Sophomores and identified upperclassmen needing extra academic support have mandatory study hours in the residence halls from 7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. During the first semester, all days are required. As students demonstrate responsible study habits and maintain their grades, they may no longer be required to attend every day.

Writing Center Tutors are available to help students brainstorm, write thesis statements, make an outline/organization plan, learn how to use MLA, APA and Chicago Style citations, and polish final drafts and revisions. The Writing Center is located in A109, but tutors are also available to help in the residence halls during evening hours. Visit the Writing Center to meet with a Writing Center Tutor, or ask your RC for a list of residence hall Writing Center Tutors during evening hours.
Writing Center Hours
Peer Tutors are IMSA students who have been approved by subject-specific faculty to assist students one-on-one in the halls and host study sessions during mid-terms and finals week. See your RC or the Academic Support Hub in Canvas for more information on tutors in each hall.
Education plans are created to support students needing additional assistance in and/or outside of the classroom. Contact Dr. Linda Hefferin at firstname.lastname@example.org or refer to the Student Parent Handbook for more information.
Office Hours and Review Sessions
Faculty hours and offices vary per individual. Please reach out to specific faculty to schedule a time to meet. Students are not limited to seeing their specific teacher. Students are welcomed and encouraged to seek support from other faculty in the department, as well.

Residence Counselors (RCs)
Not only do RCs offer residential support and resources for students, but they can also assist with students’ academic success. RCs can refer and guide students to appropriate staff, faculty, and administrators, and serve as an advocate in the academic building on their behalf.
Peer Tutor Coordinators
RCs also manage the peer tutors within each hall. Students ask an RC in their building for the schedule and availability of peer tutors. If additional support is needed, students should contact the Peer Tutor Coordinator for their building.
