This uniquely IMSA program combines two weeks of online learning followed by one week of engaging, hands-on learning on campus in Aurora and explores the fascinating world of biotechnology. Taught by IMSA staff, participants delve into scientific topics, including an in-depth exploration of DNA, and the role of technology in biology today. Check back for 2025 application dates!

IMSA’s Avantor Science program addresses the unique challenges of culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse (CLED) students who have an interest in STEM education by providing academic enrichment programming at low to no cost. This grant-funded program is open to all students with priority enrollment for students who qualify for the national free or reduced-price meal program,* students from rural Illinois counties (please see this list of rural counties), Black or African American students, and Latinx students.
Eligibility Requirements
- U.S. Resident
- Entering 9th grade in the fall of 2025
- Completed one year of Pre-Algebra by July 1, 2025
- Be age 13 by September 1, 2025

Students must complete the online portion of the program in order to be able to attend the on-campus residential portion of the program. Completed applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, so it is to your benefit to submit the required forms as soon as possible. Teacher recommendation forms will be emailed to the teacher indicated in the program application on Mondays and Thursdays. If not received by the end of the Monday or Thursday following the day you applied, please have the teacher check their spam folder or reach out to studentenrichment@imsa.edu.
Student participation costs for the entire program will be completely covered through the generosity of the Avantor Foundation, but students will be asked to pay a $50 registration fee upon acceptance to confirm their attendance.
*Applicants who qualify for the Avantor Integrated Science Program at IMSA based on financial need will need to provide evidence of enrollment in SNAP or Free/Reduced Lunch. If you do not qualify for SNAP or FRL, you could alternatively provide your 2023 or 2024 Federal Income Tax Form showing your Adjusted Gross Income (Line 11 on Form 1040, 1040-SR, and 1040NR), and the number of dependents.
