The application for the Fall 2021 PROMISE Program will become available in mid-August!
IMSA is committed to equity and excellence, including active recruitment of students from all areas of Illinois. IMSA’s PROMISE Program addresses the unique challenges of culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse (CLED) students who have interest in STEM education by providing academic enrichment programming at low to no cost. Black or African American, Latinx and rural Illinois students as well as students who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch are encouraged to apply. Attending these sessions provides students with the opportunity to work with IMSA faculty, staff, and student mentors while exploring IMSA’s unique learning laboratory. The program also works with interested participants to prepare them for the IMSA Admissions Process. PROMISE programs are typically held on the campus of the Illinois Mathematics & Science Academy in Aurora, Illinois. Currently, all programs are being held virtually until further notice.
The PROMISE program consists of three grade-based experiences. The Fall and/or Spring PROMISE Programs are held on Saturdays during the fall and/or spring semesters. The Summer PROMISE Program is held during the month of June. Each program has a separate application process. You can find more details about the programs below or in our PROMISE Brochure.
Program highlights include:
- Exposure to curriculum that increases skills in math and science
- Interactive, hands-on learning
- Personal skills development
- The opportunity to experience IMSA’s residential programming
- Preparation for the Academy application process

Summer PROMISE Program (June 14-25, 2021)
*Our priority at IMSA will always be the safety of our students, faculty, and staff, and we are following guidance from local, state and federal agencies in our planning. As a result, we have decided to host the Summer PROMISE Program (SEAMS) online.*
The PROMISE Summer Program also known as Summer Enrichment in Academics in Mathematics and Science (SEAMS) is designed for students between their 8th and 9th grade years. Only students currently enrolled in the 8th grade are eligible to apply. The program will be held June 14-25, Monday through Friday via Zoom videoconference. The application process is competitive and students will be asked to pay a $50 registration fee to confirm their attendance upon acceptance. Students will not be turned away by their inability to pay the participation costs. Students will be required to have a laptop and reliable internet access and they can request loaner equipment if needed to participate. Participants are expected to remain for the entire duration of the program.
Applications must be completed online and will require grade reports and evaluation forms. Students will send electronic requests for a math or science teacher evaluation and a counselor or other school representative for grade records.
Fall PROMISE Programs
Applications for Fall PROMISE programs will be released in early to mid August. Please check back during that time for updates.
Leading Students 2 Success (LS2S) is for students who are in 7th or 8th grade and the Early Involvement Program (EIP) is for 9th grade students. Both programs meet on Saturdays during the regular school year. The program typically takes place from September – December.
Spring PROMISE Program
In the event that the PROMISE Program continues to be hosted virtually, students enrolled in 7th and 8th grade (LS2S) during the 2021-22 school year may be eligible to apply to IMSA’s Virtual Spring 2022 PROMISE Program. The program will take place on Saturdays from February – May 2022. Sessions will run from 9:00am to 12:30pm. All ten sessions will be held virtually. More info will follow.
