Biography

Dr. Ahrendt has been a member of the IMSA science faculty since 2015 and teaches Scientific Inquiries in Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Environmental Chemistry. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign before earning a doctorate degree in biochemistry from Northern Illinois University. Prior to coming to IMSA, she worked for nine years at Argonne National Laboratory where she did protein engineering of antibodies, fluorescent proteins, and protein nanosensors. At IMSA she mentors students in the Scientific Inquiry and Research program doing research in protein engineering. She has also been teaching for the PROMISE program since 2017.
