Funshops are 2-hour, hands-on, fun-filled, STEM activities for students in grades 3-6. They are written by our fabulous IMSA curriculum writing team to capture your child’s natural curiosity and mimic the enterprise of doing real science.
Magical Mysteries Funshop – Saturday, September 21, 9:30 a.m. – 12 noon
Is it magic, or is it science? Our budding scientists will be investigating several seemingly magical events to discover if they really are magic – or if there is more happening than meets the eye. Come see why slime is attracted to magnets, and so much more!
Certain illusions help magicians appear to defy natural forces (such as gravity) and do the impossible! Students in this FUNshop will build a device to perform a floating object trick right from their own hands, and build and test a device that allows them to create and visualize holographic-like images. Along the way, students will discover the underlying STEM principles which allow these illusions to exist!
Frightful Fun Funshop! Saturday, October 19, 9:30 a.m. – 12 noon

Have you ever trudged through deep snow? Do you sink into the snow as you walk or glide across the top? Come engineer a way to walk on snow! And no winter is complete without playing in the snow! Make your own snow to bring home so you can have a winter wonderland all year long.
Ice is always cold….or is it? Create your own “hot” ice using chemistry! Chemical reactions will also help you survive outside in the frigid winter air. Engineer your own hand warmers to keep the frostbite away as the temperature continues to plunge.
