The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy recently inducted 50 students from throughout Illinois into its newly-formed chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS).

AURORA— Governor Rod Blagojevich has appointed Jay Budzik, Ph.D., founder and chief technology officer of Chicago-based MediaRiver (www.mediariver.com), to the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) Board of Trustees.

IMSA Class of 1998 Graduate Travis Schedler is the sole recipient of the 2008 American Institute of Mathematics (AIM) Five-Year Fellowship. 

IMSA will provide problem-based learning professional development to Illinois teachers in a statewide public/private partnership to promote innovation-centered education.

AURORA— Four seniors at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) have qualified as semifinalists in the 2009 National Achievement® Scholarship Program, an academic competition for African-American high school students.

AURORA-- For the second consecutive year, Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy Class of 2008 graduate Jenny Iglesias of Aurora was one of only eight young women selected to compete on the U.S. team in the China Girls Mathematical Olympiad.  

AURORA– For the second consecutive year, the IMSA Fund for Advancement of Education (www.imsa.edu/giving) received a $100,000 Innovation Generation Grant from the Motorola Foundation to help spark Illinois students' interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields.  
 

AURORA—The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy® (IMSA) recently recognized its 50 semifinalists in the 2009 National Merit® Scholarship Program.The semifinalists represent 37 communities throughout Illinois. Local-area recipients include: (see attached list).

More than 1.5 million seniors in nearly 21,000 U.S. high schools entered the year 2009 competition by taking the qualifying exam in 2007 (their junior year). National semifinalists include less than one percent of each state’s seniors.

AURORA— As of July 23, 2008, 253 Illinois students will be members of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy’s sophomore class, the Class of 2011.  Area students selected include: (see attached list).
