Academic Support Services

Academic support for students by overseeing individual and group interventions.

  • Serve as academic support on behalf of students
  • Teach students strategies to succeed academically one-on-one and in group settings
  • Assist students in the transition to a profoundly different learning environment
  • Collaborate as a team (Learning Strategies Coordinator, CACs, Counselors, Staff, Resident Counselors, and Faculty) to support students with their academics, and advocate for students in academic and social intervention meetings

Sophomores and identified upperclassmen needing extra academic support have mandatory study hours in the residence halls from 7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. During the first semester, all days are required. As students demonstrate responsible study habits and maintain their grades, they may no longer be required to attend every day.

The Writing Center is located in A109, but tutors are also available to help in the residence halls during evening hours. Visit the Writing Center to meet with a Writing Center Tutor, or ask your RC for a list of residence hall Writing Center Tutors during evening hours.

Residence Counselors (RCs)

Not only do RCs offer residential support and resources for students, but they can also assist with students’ academic success. RCs can refer and guide students to appropriate staff, faculty, and administrators, and serve as advocates in the academic building on their behalf.

Peer Tutor Coordinator

Students ask an RC in their building for the schedule and availability of peer tutors. If additional support is needed, students should contact the Peer Tutor Coordinator, Caleb Schlesser at cschlesser@imsa.edu.

Academy Advocate

Assigned IMSA faculty or staff to offer additional support for identified students to succeed academically and emotionally. Advocates can be assigned to any student anytime throughout the school year.

Contact Dr. Anita White at awhite@imsa.edu or Dr. Linda Hefferin at lhefferin@imsa.edu for more information.
