19th Annual Community IMSA Family Reading Night

19th Annual Community IMSA Family Reading Night

On Thursday, November 20, 230 grade school students and 150 parents from District 129 and District 131 of Aurora joined us at IMSA for our 19th Annual Community Family Reading Night. This year’s theme was “Reading is out of this world!” The annual event promotes and celebrates both literacy and STEM.

During the evening, our grade school student attendees participated in storytime, crafts, scientific activities, and a puppet show. Parents were given tours of the main building. Each participant received an event-themed t-shirt, a backpack, and several books. Guests were also treated to ice cream donated by Oberweis Dairy!

A representative from the Aurora Public Library was also in attendance. More than 100 attendees visited their information table, and many families signed up for library cards. More than 60 IMSA students also volunteered their time, contributing 170 service-learning hours, along with several IMSA staff members who supported the event.

Family Reading Night is sponsored annually by the Romeu Murariu Literacy and STEM Fund, established in 2022 by the Murariu family in honor of Romeu Murariu, a lifelong advocate for STEM education. The late Romeu had two sons who attended and graduated from IMSA, Dr. Danial Murariu (Class of 1999) and Lorin Murariu (Class of 1997). We were delighted to welcome members of the Murariu family this year, including Romeu’s wife, Virginia, his son Lorin, and his grandson.
